A Santa Fe Journey
Insiders Guide to Alaska
Alaska is where nature still feels raw and untamed — in the best possible way. Towering mountains, massive glaciers and roaming wildlife around every bend make it feel like another world, yet it’s surprisingly easy to explore. Whether by cruise, train or guided tour, the experiences are unforgettable.
This is a destination that works for all kinds of travelers. Multi-gen families bond over whale watching excursions and junior ranger programs, while thrill-seekers can chase backcountry adventures or helicopter to remote glaciers. The pace here respects your personal travel style.
There’s more here than just the views — Alaska has a strong cultural heart. You’ll find Indigenous heritage centers, historic gold rush towns and welcoming communities proud to share their stories.
Whether you’re after outdoor adventure, cultural discovery or a bit of both, Alaska is one of those rare destinations that leaves a lasting impression. Read on to discover where to stay, cruise, eat and what to do across Alaska.
Tucked into the high desert of northern New Mexico, Santa Fe is a city that enchants at every turn. You will find centuries-old adobe architecture along with cutting-edge art and crisp mountain air. The smell of piñon carries whispers of ancient cultures. It’s a place where the light feels different, the sky is the bluest blue you will ever see, the pace slows down, and the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Santa Fe affects every one of my senses…sight, smell, taste, touch, and sound. If your passions are art, world-class cuisine infused with local flavors, or the deep spiritual roots of Native American and Spanish heritage, this is the destination for you. Santa Fe invites travelers not just to visit, but to linger, to savor, and to be transformed. This isn't just a destination—it's an experience wrapped in turquoise skies and timeless charm.
Canyon Road Art Walk-This scenic half-mile road full of galleries, studios, and sculpture gardens showcases a diverse mix of traditional and contemporary art. At every turn, you see adobe charm and feel the creative energy. It’s a must-visit for art lovers and culture seekers alike. One of the simple joys that makes my heart happy is a Friday evening stroll down Canyon Road in the summer. There’s something magical about wandering from one gallery to the next, wine glass in hand, chatting with the artists and soaking in their energy and creativity. And then come winter, it transforms into this glowing, festive wonderland—carolers filling the air with music, farolitos lighting the path, and the scent of hot chocolate drawing me in every time. It’s not just a walk—it’s a feeling I carry with me long after the night ends.
Discover the Magic of San Miguel de Allende
From October 31 through November 2, join the vibrant Día de los Muertos celebration, a colorful Mexican tradition that honors and remembers deceased loved ones. This holiday includes parades, elaborate altars (ofrendas) decorated with candles, marigolds, and photographs, and traditional foods like pan de muerto.
La Parroquia San Miguel de Arcangel is a must-see. This iconic cathedral, known for its stunning Neo-Gothic facade, holds more than meets the eye. Beneath the alter lies a remarkable crypt. This is only accessible to the public once a year on Día de los Muertos, offering a rare glimpse into a hidden treasure of local history and devotion.
San Miguel de Allende is a vibrant hub for arts and culture. It hosts several standout festivals throughout the year. Two of my favorites are the Feria de Arte y Artesanias during the month of April. This is a local artisan fair in the main square, featuring handmade crafts, textiles, jewelry, and metal work. The second is The Art of the Story Festival in late October. This festival features immersive storytelling through writing, visual arts, and performance workshops.
